Welcome to the Royal Texans Blog

The Royal Texans blog is all about our family and the people we love. It's a little crazy being a Mommy of two lil' guys, but I eventually post everything so check back often for updates on Oliver and Miles!

Oliver Clayton Royal is Twenty-Two Months Old!

Happy 22 month old birthday baby! I guess technically I shouldn't call him my baby anymore, but I just can't help it! I can't believe that he will be two in just a couple of short months; I still remember the day he was born and the months we spent rocking and nursing like they were yesterday. Oliver has grown into such a big boy. He loves to help Mommy & Daddy do just about anything: if Mommy cleans, Oliver cleans; if Daddy hammers, Oliver hammers. Oliver has become very social and several people have commented on he how he is not shy any longer. I attribute this to the time we have spent at Gymboree, but it may be that he is just growing up. He is such a happy boy with a great disposition, although he is testing boundaries and has definitely discovered that he has a will of his own and exerts it often. This past month he has turned into a great sleeper and he puts himself to sleep for a 2-3 hour nap and every night for around 11 hours. His favorite food is still pasta and he requests it daily along with cookies (go figure!). He loves to cook in his kitchen, play with toy cars and trucks, read books, snuggle stuffed animals, go outside, and he especially loves garbage trucks. We are constantly on the lookout for garbage trucks and we often watch videos of them on the Internet. We love this little guy so much!
This month I let Oliver choose where he wanted his 22-month old pictures taken and he had some good choices, some with bad lighting, and a ton of cute smiles. Here are the highlights. Enjoy!

Happy Day Mommy & Daddy

Clayton & I have been married for five years now. I love my life and I couldn't imagine it without my husband and the sweet little boy we brought into our family. This morning we went to the Arbor Hills Nature preserve for some exploring and this evening we will go out for an entertaining dinner at Japon Steak & Sushi. We will sit at the Hibachi grill so Oliver will hopefully be amazed by the fire and the chef. Here are some picture from our day:

A few of the parks around here have these huge red swings and Oliver can barely hold the chains, but he loves them! He has always loved swinging, but now every time he sees one of these, he wants to swing and I can barely get him out! Here is a video of him in the swing:

Oliver's word usage during his 21'st month

Oliver, Mommy & Daddy had become so adept at signing with each other, that we almost preferred that language over words as we could understand exactly what Oliver needed or wanted. After taking an inventory of words that Oliver used at 21 months, we noticed that Oliver was only speaking words that he didn't have signs for. Clayton & I decided about 3 weeks ago, that he and I were going to stop signing and stop creating new signs for Oliver to use and be more focused on encouraging word usage. We still allow Oliver to communicate in signs, but now we are pushing even harder on encouraging him to try to say the word instead of use the sign. What a difference that has made. Oliver's word usage is increasing so quickly that I can't even keep up a list now. And now he has stopped using a lot of his signs.

So, as Oliver approaches his 22nd month birthday tomorrow, I have decided to update my blog: I have removed the sidebar with the words list, and will instead keep this list of words he used during his 21st month: Ace, ba ba (lamby), bagel, ball, blue, boo, boom, bye bye, cook, cookie, corn, dada, day, done, down, duck, Emmy, gala, garage, go, grandpa, grape, green, Gude (his friend Jude), gum, happy, hi, high, hiding, kitchen, kiwi, mama, meow, milk, moo, more, mow, na na (egg and gum), no, oh no, oh yeah, otter, paint, pan, pear, peas, pink, pizza, pooh, puppy, red, slide, ta da, tigger, uh oh, waffle, work, wow, yeah and yes.

And this list of baby signs he used during and before his 21st month: all done, alligator, ant, apple, baby, ball, balloon, banana, bath, bear, bib, big boy, bird, book, brush, bubble, bug, bunny, butterfly, car, cat, caterpillar, cheerio, cheese, chicken, clean, clock, cold, come here, computer, cookie, cow, cracker, danger, diaper, dog, down, drink, duck, eat, elephant, fan, fish, flag, flower, frog, garbage, garbage truck, gentle, giraffe, glasses, hat, help, horse, hot, ice cream, juice, just right, lawn mower, light, lion, milk, monkey, moon, more, noise, outside, phone, pig, plane, please, push, quiet, rain, sad, sleep, slide, snow, sorry, spider, sprinkler, stars, stinky, stop, swing, thank you, tooth brush, tractor, train, tree, truck, turtle, up, vacuum, wash hands, water, and where is it?

Happy Day Jude (or Gude in Oliver's words)!

Today Oliver and I went to his friend's second birthday party. My friend Roma made the cutest invitations for the party. Oliver had a ton of fun at Jude's party and Mommy had fun socializing with her friends. Thanks for inviting us Roma and Jude! We met Jude and one of his other friends Milo at Gymboree. Oliver is holding Milo's hand in one of the pictures below, and of course Jude is the one blowing out the candles:

Happy early birthday Ace!

To celebrate Oliver's cousin Ace's third birthday, we took the Grapevine Vintage Railroad train to the Ft. Worth Stockyards and back.

Although the train ride was long and hot, we made it to the stockyards with only one hiccup: Our train was robbed! It was actually a staged robbery with some pretty funny gun fighters.

An example of one of their jokes:

train robber: that is some mouth you got there, what happened to your teeth?
kid: they fell out
train robber: did you put them under your pillow for the tooth fairy?
kid: yes
train robber: did you get money for them?
kid: yes
train robber: does your mom know your selling body parts?
ha ha ha... I thought it was funny!

As it turned out, it was actually a reverse robbery as one of the robbers came through the train car and handed all the children a souvenir piece of phony money. After the robber came through, the sheriff came through and deputized all of the children by giving them a sticker that looked like a badge. Although the guns firing frightened Oliver, he quickly recovered and enjoyed it as much as the other children.

After arriving in Ft. Worth, we cooled down in an air conditioned shop with root beer floats; Oliver however, ordered a cookie of which he enjoyed every last morsel. While there, Ace had his picture taken with a real cowboy.

We did some looking around and were able to see a herd of long horn cattle driven right down the street in front of us.

Despite Oliver missing his nap, he was an absolute angel all day down to the very last minute when he quickly fell fast asleep in his crib. Thanks for inviting us on the train Aunt Tricia! I also need to thank my mother-in-law for the pictures. Today I accidentally broke one of the cardinal rules of motherhood and forgot my camera...I couldn't believe it! Thanks Francie!
