Welcome to the Royal Texans Blog

The Royal Texans blog is all about our family and the people we love. It's a little crazy being a Mommy of two lil' guys, but I eventually post everything so check back often for updates on Oliver and Miles!

Miles in the cabinets

Miles is following in his brother's footsteps as he seems to LOVE my tupperware, cooking utensils and pots and pans. This is often where you will find him while we are in the kitchen.

I'm sure I have a picture of Oliver just like this, but I couldn't locate it easily

I also wanted to post this cute picture of my baby with Cousin Tatia who is expecting her first baby. Such a cute picture! :)

Miles Laughing

Miles is a very smiley baby, but it takes a lot to get him to laugh...and laughing is usually prompted by a correctly placed tickle.

Watch the video to hear my baby laughing. Love this laugh!

Plank Baby

I know it's not a great picture, but this baby can seriously hold the plank so much better than I can. Some day my abs are going to be that strong again! :)

Insert Oliver's high pitched giggle and you have a pretty good idea of Oliver torturing Miles in this picture! ;)

Miles was inside his exersaucer and I ran to get the camera, and he had gotten out...I wanted a picture like the one below of his brother and almost the exact same age.
Miles 8 months five days

Oliver nine months one day

My Walk By Oliver Royal

Oliver has been really interested in making books lately. In this particular one, he took the photographs (sans the ones of him), pasted them to the paper, narrated the story and I was his scribe. Next time you see him, ask him to show you one...he'll be more than happy to oblige! :)

Baths, massages, and more...

Here is my very independent baby feeding himself in his swing. His little feet were crossed so cute when I went to get the camera, alas, he had moved them before I got back. Still, I love the smile underneath the bottle!

Oliver loves making himself lunch, bonus for me he eats faster too! :)

Oliver is my little photographer for these next photos. This is Miles first time in his blow up bath tub, he actually really liked it! :)

getting ready for baby massage

sadly, Miles doesn't like baby massage as much as Oliver did and still does. He rarely will lie still for it, and if he does, he is sad. Maybe it has something to do with me not having the luxury of just giving him a bath whenever he is ready, sometimes he has to wait for me to do one of a million things before I can put him to bed. Poor baby. I really hope you'll learn to love massages, they really are amazing!

Miles Brown Royal is Eight Months Old!

About a month ago, when Miles was first interested in crawling, he would get up on his hands and knees, but when he would start to go, I would always pull him back to his blanket since we needed to have our carpets cleaned. Well he figured out that he could move a little easier with the military crawl on his blanket, so he really perfected that. Soon after he was let loose (after the carpets were cleaned), Miles got really fast on with the military crawl and kind of forgot about hands and knees. He will still get up in the stance to start, but then he goes down to drag himself. That seems so much more difficult to me, but it must be easier as both my babies have started with this type of crawl.

Also, I don't think I mentioned last month that he started signing in his seventh month, when he was about six and a half months old. His first sign was all done. I had overfed him a couple of times, so I was being really careful and kept asking if he wanted more or if he was all done while signing. He finally drug up his hands and signed a big all done. He was so proud when he was able to tell me he was all done with his dinner. It didn't stop there, he started using all done whenever he was done with his bottle, with getting his diaper changed, when the fan turned off, when he wanted down, etc. Wait to generalize Miles! During his eighth month, Miles learned to sign light and fan both of which were Oliver's first signs.

Miles has really taken to eating solid foods. He is really independent and loves feeding himself soft puffs, cheerios, rice rusks, and teething biscuits. He also loves when we give him pieces of our food. Despite all my efforts to discourage early weaning, Miles stopped breast feeding at about seven and a half months. I felt bad for about half a second, then I realized what a big reliever of stress weaning will be. Miles is VERY interested in Oliver, so I was always having to ask Oliver to leave the room while I was trying to nurse, or try to be quiet, and everything had to be just right to get him to nurse, and well, as much as I loved that time between the two of us, I am actually glad it is over. Now I can get back to the gym in the mornings and lose this baby weight that has been hanging on.

Miles isn't much of a talker yet, he has been saying his ah goos and ah gees for a couple of months now, but other than squealing, not much else has come. All in good time! :)

Miles has perfected sitting up, but his biggest milestone in the past month is that he is now completely mobile, which makes it almost impossible to take pictures of him. Add to that the fact that he has not yet developed his depth perception and taking pictures on any elevated surface becomes quite dangerous. Every time I would back away to take a picture, Miles would come after the camera...he loves that thing. You'll see what I mean below. We love you baby Miles!

It's uncanny...

When I saw my baby peeking through the chairs at me, I KNEW I had seen that before...

Here is Miles almost eight months old peeking through the chairs

And here is Oliver almost nine months old when the chairs were a little further apart.

Yep, it's uncanny!

Pictures from my new phone...

I've been carrying around my phone a lot more since I got my new iPhone, but I always forget to post the pictures. Here is a random collection of shots from my phone.

my first picture of my adorable little guy! :)

Miles is splashing entirely too much in his baby bathtub for the sink, so today I blew up this one and these two tried it out! :)

Clayton was out of town, so Miles and I took Oliver to soccer

Look how proud!

Miles' teeth

Me: Miles can you please give Mommy a big smile so I can show everyone your teeth?

Miles: Umm, let me think about it...

Miles: How about this?
Me: How about a little bit bigger?

Miles: Syke, you really thought I was going to do it didn't you?
Me: Please?

Miles: ha, ha, ha
Me: Oh come on.

Miles: okay, but I'm not going to open my eyes!
Me: Just one cute one, please?

Miles: Okay, but I'm going to move my hands so it is blurry!

So there you have it: Two beautiful teeth on my sweet little baby!

You can watch this video if you want to see Miles feeding himself little pieces of cereal. He LOVES it. Sorry doc, we couldn't wait until 9 months like you instructed, Miles was ready NOW! :)
