Welcome to the Royal Texans Blog

The Royal Texans blog is all about our family and the people we love. It's a little crazy being a Mommy of two lil' guys, but I eventually post everything so check back often for updates on Oliver and Miles!

Way to go Dallas Zoo!

About a year and a half ago, I won tickets to the Dallas Zoo from one of my favorite Mom's group, Metroplex Baby & Kids. I had been to the Dallas Zoo on three separate occasions and had not been impressed in the least so we kept putting it off. Well, the tickets expired 12/31/10 and that day just so happened to be BEAUTIFUL, so we decided we would go. Oliver had started coughing and sneezing a little the day before and woke up saying he had a funny taste in his mouth, but otherwise acted fine so we decided to go anyway. Oliver's wellness went downhill in our 25 minute car ride to the zoo. He lost all his energy and he didn't even want to stand, he begged to ride in Miles' stroller (this NEVER happens). Since I brought the Baby Bjorn infant carrier, we decided we would go in and just see how long he would last.

This is the last smile I saw from Oliver all day. The rest of the day he laid back in the stroller and didn't even want any french fries, grapes, gold fish, or fruit strips (which I can ALWAYS get him to eat).

Miles spent most of our trip just like this, so it felt like this trip to the zoo was really just for Clayton and myself. And I have to say, we both LOVED it!

Oliver's favorite animals at the zoo are zebras, so we decided to head over to the Wilds of Africa side of the zoo, to try and spot some zebras.

along the way we saw some cute penguins

And then I was totally caught off guard and impressed by the brand new Giants of the Savannah exhibit. It was SOOO cool! The last time we went to the Dallas Zoo, Jenny the lone elephant was kept in such a tight little spot with only a ball to play with and chain around her foot and it was sooo sad; it was a similar experience with the giraffe. Well I just have to take my hat off to the Dallas zoo for this new exhibit, it is 11 acres of pure wilderness for the animals. They keep one or two elephants up front and let the other five elephants roam.

We watched this elephant walk all the way down to the stream and we really thought (hoped) it was going to take a drink, but it just found a stick and walked away.

Next we stopped for lunch at the Serengeti Grill and this was our scenery. The lion's were sunning on this huge rock right outside one of the glass walls of the restaurant. How cool is that?

There were multiple giraffes and you could get really close

Some people even paid to feed the giraffes.

After we left the Giants of the Savannah exhibit, we were able to see a crocodile actually walk up to the water and get in, that was a really cool experience (although it was somewhat ruined for me by fumbling with my camera trying to get a picture)!

The chimpanzees were playing with a baby and it was SOO cute! Only this guy up front didn't want all the people to watch and he kept throwing dirt and it actually hit Clayton in the eye. I guess those protection instincts run strong through all God's creatures. Thankfully Clayton was okay.

And finally we took the monorail, and Oliver was able to see his favorite animal. There was even a baby who was just about Miles' age. He was pretty cute!

We had only seen a small portion of the zoo at this point and Oliver was DONE, so we left. We had to stop at the store really quick on the way home and Oliver didn't want to come in, but wanted to get out of his seat belt while Clayton fed Miles a bottle. When I came back, Oliver was lying on the floor in the back seat crying. Poor little guy, he really didn't feel good! When we arrived home, he took an hour and a half nap which could have been longer if I would have let it. Hopefully next time we go to the zoo he'll be feeling much better!

Brothers

Here is my free Shutterfly book for the year. I made it last minute not realizing it expired tonight, but I think it turned out cute! :)

Just what is a Nutria anyway?

My dad sent some pictures of the snow they received on the day we left (it didn't snow one bit while we were there and Oliver was very disappointed to not be able to use his shovel) and Oliver wanted to send him a picture back, this was first thing in the morning. Good morning Oliver & Daddy!

Later that day we went to the park and fed the ducks

I liked this action shot, if you look closely you can see the bread in the air. Go OLIVER! Oliver discovered during this trip that the male Mallard Duck is his favorite.

Miles and I took a walk on the trail while Oliver and Clayton played on the playground, and while we were gone, we ran into some of these.

These are huge rodents that live near this big pond. The City of Plano has put up signs to educate the public about the Nutria. I am always so surprised when I see these huge rat like things just hanging out next to the ducks trying to eat the bread. YUCK! If you want to find out more click here.

Oliver played with his new Play-doh set Santa brought him for the first time today, he LOVED it! Great job SANTA!

Miles grew while we were in SLC, he wasn't able to reach the monkey and frog on the sides of this high chair toy before we left. Can someone please freeze time for me now??? I LOVE this stage. He is so ADORABLE!

And here is my big guy using his tag reader while I cleaned up the kitchen before bath time. He just looks SOO big to me. Don't grow up to fast little O!

Wouldn't you know it???

It's always so hard to say goodbye, especially when you are not certain when you will be seeing each other again. We feel so welcome at my parents house and Oliver is just crazy about Grammy and Gramps; in fact, we were informed that he will be moving in with them when he is 17, no wait 15, no he really meant 12. So sad I only have my little guy for another 8 years! :) I know Grammy and Gramps are counting the days! ;) We will miss you guys!

And wouldn't you know that after 5 days of only taking 30 minute naps that my baby would want to take a long nap on the day we leave???

the camera clicks and flashing woke him up, I hate having to wake up this sweet little guy!

But speaking of sleeping...

Clayton always, and I mean ALWAYS, sleeps during take off...have you ever wondered what you look like sleeping??? Just fall asleep next to me and a camera, I'll help you out! :)

Miles being an angel taking his second nap

And my big little guy, who just LOVES flying. He was so good the entire flight, playing with the magazines, the flight brochures oh, and I can't forget my camera....

especially because I had 100 picture just like the ones below on my camera when we got home. Silly boy!

Oliver's highlight of the flight was being able to go into the cock-pit and talk to the pilot about the weather, he was so big and just walked right in there all by himself as we waited on the jet bridge for him. He LOVED it!!! And that is what made Delta Airlines Oliver's favorite airline, step back AA! :) Then Clayton was so nice and got all our luggage while Oliver, Miles and myself rode the train around the airport. I'm so lucky to have two such good little travelers!

A visit to Aunt Shell's house

Madi was recovering from her sickness, so the day before the end of our Christmas vacation, we headed down to Lehi for a visit with my sister Michele and her family. Oliver loves playing with his cousins and checking out all of their toys. Even though I didn't take any pictures of her doing it, I'll never forget little Layla eating grapes (her favorite food), SO CUTE! Thanks for letting us come for a visit; I wish we could get together like this every week instead of every couple of months!

I miss doing this! I don't get to hold my baby while he sleeps anymore, so times like these are especially precious!

I discovered this next set of pictures when we arrived home. I'm not sure who took them, but Oliver was sure making some silly faces!

Happy Birthday Daddy-O

Happy 39th birthday Clayton, we love you!

Miles was really interested in Grammy's thumb while she was feeding him

Our little family picture before everyone came for ice cream, Miles was SOOO tired!

Oliver took some pictures when people came in to celebrate Clayton's birthday, I liked this one

and this one too

We decided it would be fun to have an ice cream bar for Clayton's birthday...Clayton was a great server!
