Since Miles has turned in to such a great little sleeper, we decided that we would make the trip to Oklahoma in the evening, when he would normally be sleeping. We fed, bathed, massaged and placed him in pj's, just as we always do except next he went into the car seat. I vaguely remember trying this with Oliver and I think it failed miserably because it was summer and since it was light outside he wanted to be awake, but it actually worked really well with Miles. He was fascinated by all the lights from cars so it took him about 30 minutes to fall asleep, but he did really well after that. And I have to say I was incredibly impressed by Oliver's great efforts to stay really quiet for 3 1/2 hours since he didn't fall asleep until about 15 minutes before we arrived. It was Oliver's first time sleeping in a big boy bed with Daddy and Clayton said he did really well, and Miles was quick to fall asleep in his portacrib after we got him set up too. Clayton's parents haven't seen Miles since he was about a month old, so it was fun for them to see how big he has gotten. Oliver had a great time digging in Grandpa's pile of dirt, playing t-ball, and "messin" with Grandpa. The boys were angels and we had a very nice trip! Thanks for the gifts Grandpa & Grandma Royal; it was so good to see you!
Grandpa Royal with Miles and Oliver
Oliver digging...this may have been his favorite part of the entire trip (the second day we were there he dug a tunnel through the pile only we didn't get a picture)
Oliver & Miles in front of the Christmas tree
Miles with his stool Uncle Hank handmade for him, so nice!
I didn't do a very good job of capturing the excitement of his present opening...he couldn't do it fast enough and I had to help him
That night before bed, Oliver and Grandpa were playing at the table. They would growl at each other and say "Are you messin' with me?" It was really fun to watch them play together and Oliver had a great time!
We ran into some traffic on the way home and what is normally a 3.5 hour trip, turned into about a 6 hour trip, but they both did phenomenal! So proud of my boys!
