Welcome to the Royal Texans Blog

The Royal Texans blog is all about our family and the people we love. It's a little crazy being a Mommy of two lil' guys, but I eventually post everything so check back often for updates on Oliver and Miles!

A fun, but very sad day

Clayton graciously watched Miles for me today so I could attend Oliver's Halloween party at school. It was so much fun to get to know so many of the other mothers. There were plenty of goodies like doughnut holes, brownies, cupcakes, pretzels, fruit, etc. There were games like roll the pumpkin around the cone and even a dance party. It was very, very cute!

this little guys still LOVES construction and was more than thrilled to have his picture taken with a cone! :)

Look how much fun they are having at the dance party!

Oliver's friend Sara with an eye patch -- now she is a hippie pirate! :)

And now to the sad part of the day. Clayton and I had to make the very difficult decision to pull Oliver out of Spanish School House for the time being and today was his last day. Oliver has caught six colds since he started SSH in August, the poor little guy can't catch a break. We didn't want to chance him bringing home something very serious to Miles this winter and also, since we will be spending some extra time in SLC with my family this holiday season, we wanted to give Oliver a chance to recover from his illnesses before we head out. Everyone was sad to say goodbye to Oliver. I actually think I am more torn up about it than Oliver!

I was able to sneak this picture of Snta. Ingrid saying goodbye to Oliver. So sweet!

His teacher Snta. Ingrid

And his other teacher, Snta. Josefina

His teachers made him a card to say goodbye with a picture of his class.

Goodbye for now Spanish Schoolhouse, we'll miss you but we'll be back in the spring.

Miles playing with his toys

It is so fun to watch Miles enjoy all of the same toys Oliver enjoyed just four years ago. He loves grabbing for things and putting everything in his mouth.

This spinny thing was Oliver's first favorite toy on the exersaucer too!

spin it baby!

Spanish Schoolhouse Pumpkin

Oliver and Daddy had a great time together creating his pumpkin for the pumpkin patch at Oliver's school. Oliver loves spookables (aka Ghosts), so he painted the pumpkin white and used his favorite color for the spookable. He also wrote his name and Boo on the pumpkin. Have I mentioned how great he is at writing lately??? He loves writing/signing his name and loves to ask how to spell words. I'm so proud! And I think the little pumpkin he created is very cute!

So proud of the finished product

Two firsts in our house

First tastes of food:

For the last month, Miles has been so interested whenever we are eating. If I try to nurse him at the table when we are eating, he prefers to stare at me put the food in my mouth. So we were excited when the doctor said we could start introducing foods after his four month appointment. We started with Rice Cereal. It didn't take Miles long and he figured out how to get the food to the back of his mouth for swallowing. I don't think he was a huge fan of rice cereal, but he has since had oatmeal, bananas, sweet potatoes, peas, and applesauce and he loves each of them. He could eat an entire container of baby food if I'd let him. He LOVES it! :) Here are pictures from his first feeding:

First sports experience:

Oliver has shown a greater interest in sports lately, and instead of just throwing him into a game, we signed him up for soccer instruction. The class meets for 45 minutes once per week and they go over kicking, passing, running for the ball, etc. Oliver actually really enjoys it and said he would like to play soccer. Clayton is very excited! When I was pregnant with Oliver, he was really kicking during my first sonogram and the technician said we were going to have a soccer player on our hands...that just might be the case!

Miles Brown Royal is Four Months old!

It has been so much fun watching Miles grow. This past month he has learned some new things:

He has been noticing and reaching for toys

sucking on toys, holding onto his feet whenever he can

sleeping a lot less, and crying a bit more

And as this video shows, talking A LOT more. He now says all sorts of breathy sounds and tries to imitate whatever you say to him. He LOVES to squeal and has starting a really deep throaty laugh. It is so cute!

At his four month doctor's appointment, we learned Miles weighs 14 pounds and 2 ounces (25-50th percentile), he is 25 inches tall (50-75th percentile) and his head is 43 cm (50-75th percentile). He had a few shots and he was SOO sad. The doctor said he looked great, but that he needs more sleep. Miles has only been sleeping in 20-30 minute stretches around the clock, so the doctor said he will have to cry. As much as I HATE to do it, I think he may be right.

Miles and I have had some extra time to ourselves on Tuesday and Thursday mornings while Oliver is at school, and it has been so wonderful spending that time one on one with my baby. Miles 4 month birthday was on a Thursday so I got to spend some extra time taking LOTS of pictures. I think they turned out SO cute. I wanted to post them all, but I'll include just a few. We love you sweet baby boy!

I didn't know for sure if I wanted to post this, but since I am using my blog to capture my memories, I think this might be the place to do it. Wednesday, October 13 was the worst day of my life. While Miles was sitting unstrapped in his bouncy seat, I was attempting to place the seat on our island in our kitchen. I lost my grip on the seat as I was lifting it in the air and Miles fell out of the seat onto our tile floor. He instantly started crying and all I could think to do was to call 911. The fire department, an ambulance and a police man came. Miles had stopped crying by the time the arrived and they looked him over and took his vital signs and everything looked fine. They did offer to take him to the hospital for observation, but I declined and opted to take him to his pediatrician the next day. The pediatrician examined Miles and said he looked fine. He tried to make me feel better and told me that most babies have a big fall, and I am lucky if I made it through one child without a fall. I still feel AWFUL! Seriously, the worst day of my life.

Yumm, cookies!

We decided to bring cookies for Oliver's birthday celebration at school in lieu of the traditional cupcakes and they were a hit! :) It was so fun interacting with all the other children in Oliver's class. And Oliver LOVED being the star of the show! :)

Cumpleaños Feliz

This is Sara, the first friend Oliver ever talked about at school
